About Paul Brennan

I was born in Kent, England, and raised on a diet of Charles Dickens, who lived and wrote many of his greatest novels there. I remember being being absorbed into his rich world of characters and atmospheric descriptive writing but followed a more scientific career path and left Dickens behind in 1992 when I moved to Newcastle upon Tyne to study medicine and medical science.

After 20 years of working at senior level as a clinical geneticist, my creative brain re-engaged. The result is my debut novel, Imperial Secrets, inspired by a curry I once ate in Bangkok.

I live in Hartburn, Stockton on Tees with my wife and a needy cat. Our children have moved away to follow their own dreams and thoughts now turn to our true passions - travel and food, with a little wine for good measure and time for writing.
